Best Response - What are the thesis requirements?

Thesis Requirements

Each graduate program sets its own standards for the research requirements and length of its theses. It is, however, the responsibility of both the student and the supervisor to ensure that the thesis complies in all respects to the requirements set out in the Faculty of Graduate Studies Thesis Guidelines.

Please see 'Before submitting your thesis to the Faculty of Graduate Studies' for information on things that are sometimes forgotten in the relief and rush of handing in a thesis.

All forms needed when submitting your thesis to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, are available on the Graduate Studies Website.

Thesis Editing

Ultimately, the thesis must be the student's own work. Editing should take place as part of a learning process, a collaboration between the student and his/her supervisor and other academics in the University. Working with a student to teach him/her how to edit the thesis is part of a learning experience; having a thesis professionally edited is not acceptable.

We encourage students to go to courses in the English Language Foundation Program (ELFP), English for Professional Purposes courses or the Effective Writing Program as part of the general learning that takes place in graduate school.
